Textile Engineer

Develop strategies for new textile products to be used for targeted end uses, based on company objectives, directives and goals. Responsible for solving Textile Engineering problems and assist in various manufacturing segments with Quality, Product and Production improvements.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop next generation textile products with the sole purpose to meet all customer requirements. Manage complex textile engineering projects and programs; provide professional assistance and technical advice to the manufacturing departments
  • Coordinate projects with external and internal departments and follow through with project completion. Monitor and manage the day-to-day operation for designated development work, program and function, including reporting requirements
  • Evaluate new developments and projects for effectiveness and cost, ensuring that procedures and records are established, maintained and followed
  • Provide technical assistance to the Production Supervisors, Process Technicians and Maintenance to solve problems and to optimize the plant equipment operation.
  • Recommend capital projects based on a cost/benefit analysis and the intended production impact. Work with other departments on capital projects or improvements, identify necessary resources and follow up to assess the operational success of the installed equipment.
  • Provide problem-solving skills to address process, equipment, materials, quality and EHS issues.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned


Education/Work Experience        

BS in Textile Engineering or Textile Technology with a preferred focus on plastics processing/extrusion for weave fabric formation and construction or a minimum of 3-5 years work experience

Required Knowledge
  • Knowledge of weave patterns and how they are translated onto paper
  • Knowledge of yarn manufacturing in extrusion, multifilament, monofilament and spun process
  • Knowledge in the yarn Texturing, Twisting and Plying process
  • Knowledge in warping for direct or indirect beams
  • Understanding of a variety of plastics for extrusion and coating
  • Exposure to some of the manufacturing equipment for the above processes
Preferred Knowledge
  • Principles and practices of management and supervision
  • Budget principles and practices
  • Principles of program and project development, management and evaluation
  • Computer applications related to all textile work areas

Preferred Skills
  • Monitoring and managing program area activities, goals and objectives, evaluating effectiveness
  • Ability to work with associates of all levels including directors, managers, engineers, supervisors, operators and quality coordinators
  • Possess a detailed and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
  • Preparing and reviewing cost estimates
  • Writing technical reports and reviewing plans, specifications, estimates and Textile engineering calculations
