The Business Unit
 
Rexnord Aerospace supplies engineered high performance spherical and cylindrical bearings and mechanical seals to the commercial air transport, regional aircraft, business aircraft, helicopter and military aircraft markets for use in engine systems, flight control systems, airframe structures and landing gear systems.  Our aerospace bearing and seal products consist of rolling element airframe bearings and bearing tooling sold under the Shafer® and Tri-Roller® brand names, Teflon lined polymeric bearings sold under the Tuflite® brand name, slotted entry, split ball and split race bearings sold under the PSI® brand name, self-lubricating machinable lined bearings and coatings sold under the Rexlon® brand name and mechanical seals sold under the Cartriseal® brand name.  Our global customer base includes all major engine and airframe OEM’s, as well as major Tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers to the engine and airframe OEM’s and through our FAA approved repair station we support major MRO and aircraft operators with repair and overhaul capabilities.
 
Brief Description
 
This position leads an Operations team that includes manufacturing, customer service, supply chain management, and operational excellence programs responsible for producing machined aerospace parts for a $55M Business Unit (BU) of Rexnord Industries located in Simi Valley, California.
 
Key Accountabilities
 
  • Responsible for the accomplishment of division’s operations and customer service goals and initiatives within the business unit
  • Design and implement necessary improvements to maintain safe, clean, energy efficient and well organized facility
  • Drives RBS, lean manufacturing and sustainment of improvements in safety, quality, delivery, on time delivery, working capital, and productivity while creating an environment of continuous improvement
  • Drive and lead Strategy Deployment process within Operations
  • Develops short and long term operations and customer service strategies
  • Leads the operations function consistent with the annual operating plan for the Rexnord Aerospace Group
  • Pro-actively analyzes operational metrics, making and driving process improvements within manufacturing, customer service, supply chain, and sourcing
  • Determines business impact from the operations and customer service metrics and make recommendations to the business unit
  • Champions efforts to reduce material costs year over year, leveraging low cost region sourcing efforts and/ or pooled spend across Rexnord
  • Provides accurate and timely data to division operations leader
  • Develops the operations and customer service staff to become improvement leaders within the business
  • Represents operations in the Sales, Inventory, Operations, Planning (SIOP) process
  • Leads the annual manufacturing strategic planning process
  • Sets annual goals and objectives for associates and provides timely performance reviews to develop team
  • Other duties as assigned and 10-20% travel requirement
 
Education:
 
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Operations; preferably a MBA and/or Masters in Operations Management or Engineering

Desirable Experience, Capabilities and Success Factors
 
  • 8-10 years of direct experience in operations leadership within a large, professionally managed manufacturing company. Preferably machine shop management experience.
  • Experience leading a customer service team
  • Experience with metals used in the manufacturing of aerospace bearings and the associated supply chain
  • Strong track record of implementing operations continuous improvement including lean manufacturing/demand flow, including, but not limited to lean tools such as Value Stream Maps, 5S, Standard Work, Kanban, Single Piece Flow, Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Production Preparation Process (3P), Strategy Deployment, Visual Management, and Daily Management
  • Experience with low cost region sourcing preferred
  • Demonstrated history of driving teams, processes, and facilitating improved performance
  • Strong team building skills and the proven ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships with subordinates, peers, and management
  • Ability to drive accountability appropriately within the organization
  • Self-motivated; bias for action
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Excel, Word, MS Project, and PowerPoint
  • Good understanding of financial reports and analysis
